Rather than amend the law (section 295 of Pakistan Penal Code) punishing those convicted of insulting Islam, Pakistan should ensure the laws were not abused, said Pervez Musharraf, former Pakistan president and currently the head of the newly-formed political party All Pakistan Muslim League (APML).

Judge Andrew Rutherford of the UK ruled in Bristol County Court on January 18 that Hazelmary and Peter Bull broke the law when they denied accommodation to two men, Martyn Hall and Steven Preddy – who have been described as civil partners - at their hotel in Cornwall in September 2008. The judge award each of the two men £1,800 each in damages.
