In recent years, Spain “has witnessed a major escalation against families by political leaders, aided by other powers such as the ‘gay empire’ and certain feminist ideologies,” the Archbishop of Valencia, Antonio Cañizares, said in his homily during a Mass that was celebrated at the Valencian headquarters of the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family.

Prime Minister David Cameron has paid tribute to a "powerful" project that tells the stories of LGBT people across the UK and world, as he honoured the founder with a volunteering award.
The PM announced today that Wayne Dhesi, the creator of RUComingOut, is the recipient of the daily Points of Light award, which recognising work in the voluntary sector.
Launched in 2012, RUComingOut aims to create a resource by gathering the stories of everyday LGBT people from across the world, and includes more than 300 stories from 180 countries.

British long jumper Greg Rutherford has had his sperm frozen before competing at the Rio Olympics because of fears about the Zika virus, says his partner.
"The Zika news has caused no end of concern," wrote Susie Verrill.
"We've made the decision to have Greg's sperm frozen. It's just another thing we don't want to chance."

The archbishop of Canterbury has accused Ukip leader Nigel Farage of racism and agreed with the pope's suggestion that Donald Trump is not a Christian.
Justin Welby told MPs in the home affairs select committee that he “utterly condemned” comments made by Farage at the weekend that sexual assaults by migrants were the "nuclear bomb" of the EU referendum.

Hungary's parliament has granted the government the right to seek temporary extra powers if it believes the country faces a heightened terrorist threat.
These include more public surveillance and increased scope to use the army.
Any request from the government would have to be approved by MPs and the new powers could be used for up to 15 days.

The treatment of the Bodnariu family by Norway's child welfare service or Barnevernet is to be investigated by a committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
The five children of Ruth and Marius Bodnariu were taken from them last November over allegations that they had spanked them, which is illegal in Norway. It was also widely reported that the couple's Pentecostal faith was an issue in the removal. Following international protests and a campaign of support that saw demonstrations outside many Norwegian embassies, Barnevernet has agreed to return all the children.

It is impossible to understand the world without understanding religion, according to the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby.
Religion needs to be seen as more than "an exercise in private piety" that needs to be covered by organisations such as the BBC in order to keep some strange people happy, he said.

An evangelical Christian MP has admitted to having an affair with his assistant and apologised for his "completely inappropriate" behaviour.
Steve Double, 49 and MP for St Austell and Newquay, told the Cornish Guardian he had an affair with his 26-year-old married assistant, Sarah Bunt. "It wasn't a one-off but it was only a few weeks," he said.
The confession comes after the MP and former church pastor released a statement on Monday saying he deeply regretted the pain he had caused, but didn't confirm rumours of the affair.

Courtney Baker took more than a year to write and mail a letter she had been thinking about since she was pregnant with her daughter with special needs, Emersyn Faith.
Baker told ABC News, “I knew how important it was going to be to write that letter, before Emmy was even born.”

The British Humanist Association (BHA) has announced that training for humanist baby-naming celebrants will open to the public for the first time this October. The training had until now been only available to celebrants in the BHA network who were already accredited to perform humanist wedding and funeral ceremonies.
