  • The House Judiciary Committee held a hearing Thursday examining the abortion procedures and medical ethics at Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion chain.

The hearing featured testimonies from former abortionist Dr. Anthony Levatino; former Planned Parenthood manager, Sue Thayer; and Luana Stoltenberg, who suffers from trauma and infertility as a result of her abortion at Planned Parenthood.

During the hearing, Dr. Levatino shared grisly details about second trimester D&E abortion procedures, which he described as a “blind procedure.”

“With a D&E abortion— dismemberment abortion, if you wish— there is no chance of a live birth at all,” Levatino said.
  • Homosexuality may be triggered by environmental factors during childhood after scientists found that genetic changes which happen after birth can determine whether a man is straight or gay.

The finding is highly controversial because it suggests that some men are not born gay, but are turned homosexual by their surroundings. It also raises privacy concerns that medical records could reveal sexuality.

“I hope that this research helps us understand ourselves better and why we are the way we are."

The new research by the University of California has not yet been published but is being presented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Human Genetics in Baltimore.

Scientists studied 37 sets of identical male twins, who were born with the same genetic blueprint, to tease out which genes were associated with homosexuality. In each pair, one of the twins was gay.

Only 20 percent of identical twins are both gay leading researchers to believe that there must be causes which are not inherited.
  • The administration at the University of Toronto was recently enlightened on why two separate washrooms are generally established for men and women sharing co-ed residencies.

The University is temporarily changing its policy on gender-neutral bathrooms after two separate incidents of "voyeurism" were reported on campus September 15 and 19. Male students within the University’s Whitney Hall student residence were caught holding their cellphones over female students’ shower stalls and filming them as they showered.

Melinda Scott, dean of students at the University of Toronto, told The Daily Wire that campus police had been contacted immediately and worked with residence staff to “support impacted students and ensure the safety of the Residences.”
  • Hugh Jackman, who is set to play St Paul in an upcoming film about the apostle's life, has spoken out about his own religious faith.

In a candid interview with Parade magazine, Jackman said he was "brought up very religious".

"I'm a Christian. I used to go to different evangelists' [revival] tents all the time. When I was about 13, I had a weird premonition that I was going to be onstage, like the preachers I saw," he said.

Jackman added that acting gives him a sense of peace. "There are things driving me that aren't all healthy—[needing] approval and respect to fill some hole who-knows-where in me," he said.

"Am I worthy? All those fears. Through acting, I'm able to find a level of bliss and peace and calm and joy. And it feels natural."

He also called himself a "religious person" and said he dedicates each one of his performances to God.
  • Unborn babies are able to hear in the womb at just 16 weeks gestation, a new study has revealed.

For the first time scientists at the Institut Marques in Barcelona have shown a foetus is able to detect sounds, and furthermore, that they respond by moving their mouths and tongues.

It is accepted that an unborn baby's ear is fully developed at week 16 of a pregnancy.

But, until now experts did not believe a foetus could hear until week 18, at the earliest but more commonly nearer 26 weeks.

Dr Marisa Lopez-Teijon, who led the study, said the findings show a foetus responds to music transmitted intravaginally by moving their mouth and tongue, 'as if they were trying to speak or sing'.
  • Eight people a day were referred to the government's deradicalisation scheme known as "Channel" this summer.

Between June and August, 796 people in England and Wales were reported to the programme for possible intervention.

National Police Chiefs' Council figures show more than a third of the total, 312, were aged under 18.

People identified as at risk of being drawn into terrorism are assessed and about a fifth of these are required to attend deradicalisation sessions.

Public bodies such as schools and local councils are legally required to spot such cases.
  • "It is a matter of deep shame and regret that a Bishop in the Church of England has today been sentenced for a series of offences over 15 years against 18 young men known to him. There are no excuses whatsoever for what took place and the systematic abuse of trust perpetrated by Peter Ball over decades.

We apologise unreservedly to those survivors of Peter Ball's abuse and pay tribute to their bravery in coming forward and also the long wait for justice that they have endured. We note that there are those whose cases remain on file for whom today will be a difficult day, not least in the light of the courage and persistence that they have demonstrated in pressing for the truth to be revealed. We also remember Neil Todd, whose bravery in 1992 enabled others to come forward but who took his own life before Peter Ball's conviction or sentencing.

As the Police have noted Peter Ball systematically abused the trust of the victims, many of whom who were aspiring priests, whilst others were simply seeking to explore their spirituality. He also abused the trust placed in him by the Church and others, maintaining a campaign of innocence for decades until his final guilty plea only weeks ago. Since that plea was made processes in the Church have begun to initiate formal internal disciplinary procedures against Peter Ball...."
  • More than 100 religious leaders, scholars, and human rights advocates signed a letter Monday asking President Obama to formally declare the killing and displacement of Middle Eastern religious minorities a “genocide.”

“We humbly request that your office publicly acknowledge and denounce the Islamic State’s actions as genocide and act with all due haste to ensure that this ongoing, abominable crime is halted, prevented and punished and that the religious freedom and human dignity of all people currently suffering under the Islamic State are allowed to flourish,” the Oct. 5 letter stated.

The Islamic State – known also as ISIS and ISIL – has waged a campaign of violence against the religious minorities of the region, including the “Christian, Yezidi and Shia Muslim communities,” the letter said. The list of grievances includes “displacement, forced conversion, kidnapping, rape and death.”

The atrocities meet the United Nations’ definition of “genocide,” the letter claims.
  • A Christian Tory MP has accused her own party of not taking families seriously enough.

Fiona Bruce, who is the member for Congleton, has been speaking to Premier at the Conservative Party Conference.

She is unimpressed that the Government has not followed up on a promise to implement a 'family test', which was introduced last year.
  • The Catholic church in northern Italy’s Trento region has penalised a priest who said paedophilia in the church was caused by children seeking the affection of clergymen, but that homosexuality was an inexplicable sickness.

The Trento archdiocese said in a statement it had removed the Rev Gino Flaim from all pastoral work and forbidden him from preaching, after an interview was aired on the La7 private network on Tuesday evening.
