Do Sharia courts in this country operate as a parallel legal system? Baroness Cox, the independent peer, believes they do. Last week she said: “There is widespread concern that some tribunals applying Sharia are going well beyond their legal remit and some Sharia court rulings are being misrepresented as having the force of UK law.”
