China is cracking down on illegal abortion clinics in an attempt to redress the country's gender imbalance.
Aborting female babies is a common practice in China. After four decades of the one-child policy, the government is concerned about the social effects of a surplus of males — it is estimated there will be more than 30 million unmarried young men by 2020. Illegal sex-testing agencies, corrupt doctors and illicit clinics are said to be the focus of the crackdown.
