A 13-year-old girl was ordered to have an abortion by the most senior family Judge in the country – Sir James Munby, despite being described in court as “very damaged”. This is despite expert evidence which stated: “"If the pregnancy were terminated I believe that this would cause considerable harm to this young girl, who would see it as an assault.”
The teenager had become pregnant by a 14-year-old boy and Sir James who is President of the Family Division of the High Court, decided, on the “preponderance of evidence”, that a termination was in the girl’s best interests.

Sir James also recently attracted criticism for undermining the institution of marriage when he declared himself in favour of all-binding cohabitation and no-fault divorce. He has also questioned whether divorce requires judicial supervision rather than a simple clerical procedure similar to registering a birth or death.
