MEPs have voted against a controversial resolution on “Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights” during a debate in the European Parliament on Tuesday (22nd October).
This resolution promoted abortion as a fundamental right, attacked the right to conscientious objection, the rights of parents, and called on the European Union to fund abortion in its Foreign and Development Aid Policy.
This draft resolution also opposed head-on the European Citizens' Initiative 'One of Us' which is supported by more than 1.4 million people in Europe and which some of you have signed.
351 MEPs voted in favour of referring the report back to committee, which will give time for the problematic aspects of the report to be investigated further.
