ITV poll finds 85% say Christians should be allowed to wear a cross at work

Printer-friendly version

ITV’s current affairs programme, Tonight, last week asked the question, does Christianity need to take a back seat in modern secular society or is David Cameron right when he describes the UK as a Christian country.

Among those interviewed were Christian Legal Centre (CLC) client, Shirley Chaplin, a nurse from Exeter who was banned from wearing a cross at work and who took her discrimination case to the European Court of Human Rights.

An ‘ITV Panel’ was asked whether Christians should be able to wear symbols of their faith at work and a large majority of 85% agreed that they should.

Other CLC clients who featured in the programme were Jeff and Sue Green, who have been accused of discriminating against same-sex couples by operating a ‘married couples only’ policy for double rooms at their guesthouse in Wales.  They too are going to the European Court to fight their case.
