Court rejects right-to-die challenge

Guidelines stating that doctors should not encourage or assist suicide are legal, the High Court has ruled.
The legality of the guidance, issued by the General Medical Council, had been challenged by a man with 'locked-in' syndrome. The man, identified only as Martin, claimed that the prohibition interfered with his rights under the European Convention on Human Rights. Last week, the European Court of Human Rights refused to hear two other UK cases challenging assisted suicide law.
