Suicide law could create 'another Shipman'

Printer-friendly version

Christian Medical Fellowship's Dr Peter Saunders has warned Members of the Scottish Parliament that the Assisted Suicide (Scotland) Bill would be open to abuse.

“I don’t see anything in this Bill to stop a Shipman, who gets a taste for killing and authorising, to abuse this situation,” Dr Saunders said. GP Dr Shipman was convicted in 2000 of murdering 15 patients. A subsequent inquiry concluded that he was probably responsible for around 250 deaths.
