Extremism plans 'could worsen problem'

Former cabinet minister Vince Cable has warned that the government's counter-extremism measures risk increasing terrorist recruitment by forcing "extreme" views underground, where they are more difficlut to combat.

In a speech at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, he also warned that the government's approach threatens freedom of speech. During questions, he said: "The danger is that we say ‘Ok well we've banned that lot, therefore we will ban this lot.’"
