School chaplain dismissed for comments on same sex 'marriage'

Printer-friendly version

A Church of Scotland minister has been removed from his post as the chaplain of a Gaelic school in Scotland after expressing his disapproval of the government’s same sex ‘marriage’ legislation.

Reverend Donald MacInnes, who made the comments on a Facebook page that could be viewed by parents, also expressed dismay at the prospect of schools being required to teach pupils about same sex ‘marriages’ in the classroom.

Dismissed

He was dismissed after some parents who saw the comments lodged a complaint about his remarks with Glasgow City Council.

A spokesman for council said that action had to be taken as his opinions “were not in keeping with the ethos of the school”.

She added: "The man is no longer the chaplain at the school and this decision was taken by the head teacher as soon as we received the complaints from parents and reviewed the situation.

"Inappropriate comments"

"The school did receive complaints from some parents about the inappropriate comments made and a decision was taken to review the religious observance at the school."

Donald Brown, chair of the parent council for the school, said the comments were not in line with its stance on equality.
