The former Editor of the Daily Telegraph, Charles Moore, has claimed that the “overthrow without warning or study” of 2,000 years of Judaeo-Christian civilisation that marriage is between a man and a woman, is one of the root causes of defections from the Conservative Party.
The journalist and author says the loyalty and cohesion of political parties depend much more upon “their mass memberships than on their elites”.
Charles Moore was commenting on the defection of MP Douglas Carswell to UKIP, which he says is a “popular movement with grassroots enthusiasm” unlike the Tory Party.
