BBC presenter: 'Gay people take more drugs because they don't have kids'
BBC Newsnight presenter Evan Davis has said that homosexual people are more likely to take drugs because they lack the “discipline” of going home to a family and children.
Discipline
In an interview with Attitude magazine, he said that homosexual people were not necessarily constrained by “things that discipline straight men and women”.
“The gay community has less discipline because it doesn’t have kids to go home to, and slightly more disposable income, and then add to that that when these things catch on they tend to have a momentum,” the TV personality explained.
Drugs
Davis, who lives with another man, claimed that “Once gay people start taking drugs, they’ll take more drugs because it’s socially infectious and one person will take them, then another. I just think it’s something gay people have to watch out for.”
33 per cent of homosexual or bisexual men reported taking illegal drugs over the last year, according to the latest government crime survey. This compares to 22.9 per cent of homosexual or bisexual women, 11.1 per cent of heterosexual men and 5.1 per cent of heterosexual women.
