David Cameron backs largest gay festival in Wales
Prime Minister David Cameron has voiced his support for the largest gay festival in Wales, just weeks after the Government’s Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act was passed into law.
Letter
In a personal letter to the organising committee of the Cardiff Mardi Gras, Mr Cameron praised the controversial event and said he was hoping that the first same sex ‘marriages’ in the UK would take place as early as next year.
“I wish everyone attending a happy and successful Cardiff-Wales LGBT Mardi Gras,” he added.
The event will take place at the Millennium Stadium on 31st August, with around 3,000 people being expected to attend.
Stephen Fry
Mr Cameron also held a private meeting with actor Stephen Fry last week following Russia’s ban on the distribution of homosexual propaganda to under 18s.
Mr Fry, who met the PM in a pub owned by homosexual activist Sir Ian McKellen, called for a boycott of the Winter Olympics in Russia over new laws making it illegal to give under-18s information about homosexuality.
Mr Fry said he was “pleased with the replies he received” from the Prime Minister.
