In reaction to a move to allow the ordination of ministers openly embracing a homosexual identity, made at the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland last year, two high profile congregations are leaving the church just days before its 2014 General Assembly in May.
Rev Robin Sydserff, minister at St Catherine's Argyle, is understood to have strong support in his congregation, and Rev David Court, formerly of New Restalrig has also officially signed off, or demitted, from the Kirk.
Currently, 12 congregations are understood to be involved in negotiations to quit the Church of Scotland, including three churches which contribute a combined total of more than £600,000 to Kirk coffers every year.
