Christian faith 'at heart of our national life'

Communities Secretary, Eric Pickles, has said that the "the Christian faith is the backbone of local communities across the country and is at the heart of our national life".

The statement came in a Christmas message published on his department's website. You may remember that in 2012, the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre which is owned by Mr Pickles' Department of Communities and Local Government barred Christian Concern from holding a conference on marriage.
