Religious Freedom

Britain’s Christian heritage has encouraged religious freedom and tolerance. UK and European law largely protects an individual’s right to hold and manifest religious beliefs, although this is fast being eroded. We are witnessing an increasing restriction of religious freedom in this country. Increasing numbers of Christians have been penalised for their faith in the public sphere, often due to equalities legislation and the promotion of homosexual rights. Some Christians have been threatened with disciplinary action, suspended, and even sacked for refusing to act against their consciences. At Christian Concern we vigorously resist any restrictions on freedom of speech and expression for Christians.

    Lesley Pilkington, the Christian counsellor who is being investigated by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) for giving counselling to an undercover gay reporter, has had her confidence breached once again after Patrick Strudwick released a misleading article about the hearing, while the investigation still continues, and against the express instructions of the BACP.

    A Christian GP has launched an appeal to the High Court in order to get his job back after being controversially sacked from his post on the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) earlier this year. Dr Raabe stated that he has initiated legal proceedings because of the “increasing attempts” to marginalise Christians in public life.
