Freedom

Britain has a history of religious freedom and tolerance. UK and European law largely protects an individual’s right to hold and manifest religious beliefs at work, although this is fast being eroded. Due to badly-written equality legislation, increasing numbers of Christians have been penalised for their faith at work. Some have been threatened with disciplinary action, suspended and even sacked for refusing to act against their consciences. At Christian Concern we vigorously resist any restrictions on freedom of speech and expression for Christians at work.

  • Guides leaders expelled for questioning transgender ideology

    The media has recently been full of reports on the consequences of people ‘self-identifying’ as the opposite sex (such as in the separate cases of Shaun Pudwell and Philip Bunce), but when 12 Girl Guides leaders signed a letter warning of the dangers of a Girlguiding transgender policy, they were penalised for being ‘intolerant’ and two Guides leaders were expelled.
  • Pro-life charity's freedom of speech restricted as abortion clinic ‘buffer zones’ rejected

    In a victory for freedom of speech, the Home Secretary, Sajid Javid, has rejected calls for ‘buffer zones’ to be introduced outside abortion clinics, saying that they “would not be a proportionate response” to pro-life activities. This ironically comes as a pro-life charity has been banned from having a stall at freshers’ fairs in three different universities.
