Home Affairs Committee reviews pro-life activity outside abortion clinics

The House of Commons Home Affairs Committee has met to investigate claims of harassment and intimidation of women outside abortion clinics. Chaired by Yvette Cooper (Labour), the Committee received oral evidence from representatives of Ealing Council, BPAS, and Marie Stopes who have all called for the establishment of buffer zones.

House of Lords Debates Tenets of Islam

Lord Pearson of Rannoch initiated a debate in the House of Lords yesterday asking the Government to encourage Muslim leaders to re-examine key Muslim tenets of abrogation, Taqiyya and Al Hijra and to publish their conclusions. Tim Dieppe comments on his speech and the various tenets that Lord Pearson highlighted in it. He concludes that Lord Pearson was right to highlight these concerning tenets and to initiate public debate about them.
ECHR Hears Sharia Law Case

Tim Dieppe attended a hearing of The Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights this week in which a case concerning the application of sharia law was discussed. The case concerns an inheritance dispute and whether it should be resolved according to a civil will, or according to sharia law. Christian Concern intervened in the case because of its importance, and in order to make clear that sharia law is incompatible with human rights. Tim comments on the case and its implications.

In it he defended the rights of Christians to live out their faith in society, and the truth of Christianity which he said is the “essential underpinning of… democracy.” He also argued that there is no such thing as a neutral worldview.
