An independent Christian candidate has been given better odds to win the Rotherham by-election than both of the coalition parties’ candidates.
Revd Simon Copley is a leader at Herringthorpe United Reformed Church. He is also a full-time charity fundraiser and is active in his local community in Firbeck.
Bookmaker Ladbrokes has given him odds of 25-1 to win the by-election. This puts him at fourth favourite, ahead of the Conservative and Lib Dem candidates. The Labour candidate, Sarah Champion, is the current favourite.
Revd Copley said: “We need integrity to restore faith in the political system… I will do my best to fight corruption, speak out for justice on tax, call for investment in health, education and young people, oppose racism and division and reconnect politics with the issues people care about”.
