Labour MP Chris Bryant intends to propose a ten-minute rule bill on 8 September 2010 which would seek to make sex education compulsory in schools, threatening the freedom that parents currently have to withdraw their children from sex education. Although ten-minute rule bills do not often become law, it is important to raise a Christian voice in response to Chris Bryant’s proposal, as new rules on sex education could be part of a Government bill later in the year.
Compulsory sex education would be a major strategic goal for the pro-abortion and homosexual lobbies. The previous Government attempted to make sex education compulsory as part of the Children, Schools and Families Bill but this was later withdrawn after much opposition. Under the plans, children were to be taught that homosexual civil partnerships were equal in value to marriage. Faith schools were also set to be forced to teach children about homosexuality and tell children how to access contraception.
Please contact your MP and ask them to oppose this ten-minute rule bill and any other proposal for compulsory sex education. Please remind them that the primary responsibility for raising children lies with parents and guardians, not the State.
