The Bishop of Bristol, the Rt Rev Mike Hill, has warned that attempting to legislate for assisted suicide "would be a huge mistake". The bishop, a former hospice chaplain, said that although cases of people travelling to Switzerland to take their own lives were "very sad", introducing assisted suicide legislation would be "literally fatal for some". He stressed that "the Christian Church has a long and noble history of seeking to assist people to die well without killing them."
