The Québec government is being challenged to justify its plan to defy parliamentary protocol in order to push through a controversial euthanasia bill.
Bill 52 was halted by the Quebec election last month. However, the new government has stated that it will not seek the National Assembly's consent to re-introduce the legislation despite the fact that re-introduction of a Bill after a Parliamentary session has always required unanimous consent from the Assembly in the past.
The Federal Criminal Code holds that euthanasia is homicide; the Bill defines killing by lethal injection as 'health care' in order to avoid the Criminal Code prohibition.
Please sign a petition launched by the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition (EPC) and addressed to Justice Minister, Peter MacKay, opposing the government's actions.
