Belfast preacher willing to be 'put in prison'

A Christian preacher in Northern Ireland has said he is willing to be jailed in order to protect freedom of speech. Pastor James McConnell, 78, has been charged for comments he made about Islam in a sermon last year.

A Christian preacher in Northern Ireland has said he is willing to be jailed in order to protect freedom of speech.

Pastor James McConnell, 78, has been charged for comments he made about Islam in a sermon last year. Hundreds of Christians gathered outside Belfast Magistrates' Court in support of Pastor McConnell, who said: "Either they try me and put me in prison or I am free to preach the gospel." The case has been adjourned until 1 October.
