Non-Muslim inmates are being forced to convert to Islam or pay a protection ‘tax’ to Muslim prisoners, according to a government report. The report suggests Muslim prisoners are "bullying" non-Muslim inmates into paying a protection ‘tax’, known as 'jizya', in four of the UK’s largest prisons.
An anonymous Whitehall official told the Express: "It sets a dangerous precedent and sends a message...that Muslims are going to run the prison according to their own rules and sharia."
