A new pre-natal test for detecting Down's syndrome has been backed for use on the NHS. The blood test is thought to be less invasive than amniocentesis, which extracts amniotic fluid from the womb using a needle.
But this development has raised concerns that abortions may increase, as statistics suggest many babies with Downs' syndrome are aborted. Others have warned that this may lead to 'gender-abortion'.
