The Northern Ireland Assembly has rejected a motion to introduce same-sex ‘marriage’ in the country for the third time in the last 18 months.
During a debate at Stormont this week, 51 assembly members (MLA’s) voted against the Sinn Fein motion, whilst 43 voted in favour.
The motion came just a day after Catholic bishops in Northern Ireland published an open letter to all MLAs urging them to reject the proposed redefinition of marriage.
A similar motion, tabled by Sinn Fein, was rejected by MLA’s just a year agoby 53 votes to 42.
