Earlier this month, the Northern Ireland Assembly rejected a motion to introduce same-sex ‘marriage’ in the country for the third time in the last 18 months.
During a debate at Stormont this week, 51 assembly members voted against the Sinn Fein motion, whilst 43 voted in favour.
The Catholic head of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) has praised Northern Ireland Protestants for safeguarding “real marriage between a man and a woman” which he says “has been proved to be protective of unborn children”.
SPUC Chief Executive, John Smeaton, made the comments following the recent defeat of a motion calling for the recognition of same-sex ‘marriage’ in Northern Ireland. The motion, put forward by Sinn Fein, was rejected at Stormont earlier this month by 51 votes to 43.
