The ruling by the Master of Rolls that the Mayor of London must be investigated by the High Court for his motivation in banning a Christian bus advertisement is highlighted in The Spectator magazine by the broadcaster and columnist, Rod Liddle.
He reports that “Boris Johnson…may have acted improperly” in banning the advert for “political reasons”. The Christian charity, Core Issues Trust, planned an advertisement representing the interests of people who were “ex-gay and post-gay”, in response to a Stonewall bus advert permitted by the Mayor and Transport for London.
“In other words, Boris didn’t want to hack off the gays when he was standing for re-election as mayor, and didn’t really give a monkey’s about the Christians,” writes Liddle, who emphasises to the Mayor that under the Equalities Act 2010, “people who were once gay but are now gay no longer” are protected from discrimination.
