Prime Minister David Cameron has commented on Christianity and the teachings of Jesus at a recent PM Direct event near Blackburn.
The Prime Minister was asked: “What would your response to Jesus be on his instruction to us to sell all our possessions and give the proceeds to the poor?”
In his reply, Mr Cameron said he is a Christian and “an active member of the Church of England” but also admitted to struggling with some aspects of “faith”.
He made reference to different biblical teachings but he said to the questioner: “the particular one you mentioned I find a little bit more difficult. I don’t know, how do you find that one?”
He went on to speak of the “strength of the Christian faith” but then, apparently worried that he had been too exclusive, the PM appeared to backtrack saying: “You can find moral guidance from other sources but it’s not a bad handbook.”
