  • NON-RELIGIOUS parents and pupils in Scotland are being given advice on their legal rights and options after complaints about statutory religious education in schools.

    The Humanist Society Scotland (HSS), which campaigns on behalf of non-religious people, have released two new advice booklets – A Guide for Non-Religious Parents and A Guide for Non-Religious Young People – to help older pupils, parents, and carers understand their rights within education.

    Each book includes advice on how to opt out of religious observance, what resources are available to schools and how to make a complaint when they feel their rights have not been respected.

  • TBILISI, DFWatch–Georgia will not hold a referendum over whether to have a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage.


    President Giorgi Margvelashvili made it clear Tuesday evening that he does not support the proposed referendum about amending the Constitution to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

  • Election fraud has been allowed to take place in Muslim communities because of “political correctness”, a major report finds as it calls for unprecedented reforms to the British voting system.

    In a report commissioned by the Government, Sir Eric Pickles, the former Conservative Cabinet minister, today warns that the authorities are in a “state of denial” and are “turning a blind eye” to election fraud.

    Simon Harris, the health minister, said that parents travelling for abortions after a diagnosis of a fatal foetal abnormality should not face a lottery when seeking advice from their doctors.

  • A day after religious leaders released an open letter calling on California to protect religious liberty in higher education, the lawmaker behind a controversial bill dropped the proposal in question, allowing religious schools to keep exemptions to anti-discrimination laws related to sexuality.


    Under state Senator Ricardo Lara’s amended bill, schools must “disclose if they have an exemption and report to the state when students are expelled for violating morality codes,” the Los Angeles Times reported.

  • We’ve closely followed the “Don’t Screen Us Out” movement in Great Britain. Campaigners are working to raise awareness that Down syndrome is not a “disease” to be eradicated and to explain that a new “Non-Invasive Prenatal Test’ [NIPT] purported to be 99% accurate will result in the deaths of even more babies diagnosed not only with Down syndrome but also with Patau’s and Edwards’ syndromes “and could be used to detect all known genetic abnormalities,” according to Sam Greenhill of the Daily Mail.

  • An Iranian-born German politician has claimed Christians living in asylum centres in the country are being forced to hide crucifixes and Bibles or face death threats from Muslims.
    Mahin Mousapour, a pastor in the Evangelic Free Church, who converted Christianity more than 20 years ago, told a press conference that Christians living in migrant accommodation are being constantly persecuted.

  • Muslim women are the most economically disadvantaged group in British society, according to a report by MPs.


    They are three times more likely to be unemployed and looking for a job than women generally and more than twice as likely to be economically inactive, the Women and Equalities Committee said.
