Homosexuals opposed to same sex ‘marriage’

Printer-friendly version

The BBC’s online magazine has published a feature highlighting the opposition to same sex ‘marriage’ amongst the gay community.

The article comes ahead of two imminent judgments concerning marriage in the US Supreme Court.

Upcoming judgments

The court is set to rule on the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), a federal law passed in 1996 which recognises marriage as being between one man and one woman. It will also rule on the legality of California’s Proposition 8, which states that California only recognises marriage as between a man and a woman.

Jonathan Soroff, a writer who lives in Massachusetts with his male partner, says concerning same sex ‘marriage’:  “It's demonstrably not the same as heterosexual marriage - the religious and social significance of a gay wedding ceremony simply isn't the same.

“We're not going to procreate as a couple and while the desire to demonstrate commitment might be laudable, the religious traditions that have accommodated same-sex couples have had to do some fairly major contortions.”

Daily Mail columnist Andrew Pierce says that at a recent dinner party he hosted for homosexual friends, of the 11 people there only one was in favour of same sex ‘marriage’.
