Mother delighted to have avoided abortion

Printer-friendly version

A young mother who resisted pressure to abort her disabled child has spoken of her delight in him, saying he is "the best thing to ever happen to me."

A 20-week scan revealed a rare condition, and Kayleigh Douglas was advised to abort her son because he had "zero chance" of survival. Instead, she sought out a private doctor, ear-marking £200 of her 18th birthday money to pay. The Harley Street consultant was so moved that he operated for no charge as a "present".
