'Embryo research permissible, says CofE

Both the Church of England and the Catholic Church in England and Wales publicly opposed the government's 'three-parent children' plans.

However, whilst the Catholic Church stated that the human embryo should be "protected from the moment of conception", a statement from the Church of England's national adviser on medical ethics suggested that the Church of England accepted that in certain circumstances, "embryo research is permissible".
