The House of Commons has voted to approve the use of 'mitochondrial replacement' techniques in humans, by a margin of 382 - 128.
If the House of Lords supports the government's proposals later this month, the UK will be the only country in the world to allow the creation of 'three-parent children'. The techniques raise huge ethical and safety issues. Both Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali and Dr Peter Saunders set out their opposition to the plans ahead of the Commons' vote.
