A majority of Croatian voters have supported a referendum to define marriage as the sole union of one man and one woman. The country's constitution will have to be changed accordingly.
Voters were asked in the referendum whether they would "agree that marriage is matrimony between a man and a woman" to which 68 per cent responded "Yes". 38 per cent of voters answered "No".
Catholic Church leaders strongly urged citizens to back the referendum, which was called by the "In the Name of the Family" conservative group.
