'Extend' civil partnerships, says MP

Andrea Williams challenges the dilution of marriage

Printer-friendly version

A bill to allow heterosexual couples to enter civil partnerships has its first reading in Parliament on Wednesday (21 Oct). The bill, which is sponsored by Conservative MP Tim Loughton, is expected to echo a similar attempt in the last Parliament and is supported by a wider campaign to allow heterosexual civil partnerships.

Andrea Williams has challenged the move, however, saying that Parliament should be "encouraging marriage, not diluting it further."
