Marriage has helped my tennis, says Wimbledon champion

Wimbledon men’s champion Novak Djokovic has said that marriage and family life have helped his tennis.

“When I go back home, I’m not a tennis player any more. I’m a father and husband. That’s a kind of balance that I think allows me to play this well,” he explained.

The world number one won his third Wimbledon title on Sunday (12 July), the first anniversary of his church marriage to childhood sweetheart Jelena.

“One year ago I won the trophy, and on this day [12 July], we got married in church and started a new life together … Since I got married and became a father, I haven’t lost many matches. I won many tournaments. I suggest that to every player — get married, have kids, let’s enjoy this,” he said.
