New government survey challenges legitimacy of figures used to promote homosexual 'equality' legislation
A new government survey indicates that the number of people in the UK identifying themselves as homosexual is far lower than estimates used when controversial ‘equality’ legislation was passed.
A new government survey indicates that the number of people in the UK identifying themselves as homosexual is far lower than estimates used when controversial ‘equality’ legislation was passed.
Based on a sample of 450,000 people, the Office of National Statistic’s (ONS) Integrated Household Survey, reported that only 1.5% of respondents described themselves as homosexual, lesbian or bisexual, suggesting that across the UK as a whole, the homosexual and lesbian population would number only 480,000 with a further 245, 000 being bi-sexual.
These numbers are significantly lower than those published by the Labour government whilst Civil Partnership legislation was being framed in 2003. At the time, the homosexual pressure group, Stonewall, suggested that seven per cent of the population was homosexual. It was this estimate that was endorsed and used by the Labour administration.
Following publication of the latest figures, questions have been raised about the appropriateness of the emphasis placed on homosexuality and the amount of public money spent on meeting demands for legal protection for homosexuals.
Conservative MP Philip Davies said: “An awful lot of focus in diversity issues is given to people’s sexual preference and this difference is not quite as widespread as believed.”
The ONS survey also stated that 71 per cent of people in Britain identified themselves as Christian. Religious devotion was reported to be highest in Slough (93%) and lowest in Brighton (58%).
Andrea Minichiello Williams, Director of CCFON, said: “This survey suggests that the numbers provided by Stonewall and used for the introduction of the equality legislation and other political causes were wildly inaccurate. Serious questions now need to be asked about why the media and government have given such extensive attention to such a small group and spending huge sums of public money in the process.”
