Labour leader, Ed Miliband, has welcomed his party's selection of a transgender candidate to stand in next year's General Election.
Ms Emily Brothers will contest the seat of Sutton and Cheam. It is believed to be the first time that an openly transgender person has stood for a Westminster election for the Labour Party. Mr Miliband said that she had "long been a courageous campaigner on disability rights and now on trans issues too."
