Family and Sexual Ethics

The family is the most foundational building block for society. The loving union of one man and one woman is the normal God-given context for children to be born and raised. This pattern for married life has been under attack for all of human history. Divorce, homosexuality and transsexualism are three of the most significant challenges to God’s pattern for family in today’s society.

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27

    Last week Channel 4 broadcast a documentary called “Trans Kids: It’s Time to Talk.” It is a compassionate but critical exploration of how we should treat children who are suffering with gender dysphoria. The presenter interviews several trans people about their experiences and comments on her own experiences of childhood. She is very concerned about offering irreversible treatment to kids who may change their minds. Tim Dieppe discusses what she found.

    The issues of ‘gay pride’ and the LGBT ‘agenda’ have featured a lot in the news recently, whether through ITV ‘exposés’ on ‘conversion therapy’, the silencing of an ex-gay X Factor contestant, or news of parents fighting against schools promoting LGBT. But all of these stories have created a mixed response from Christians; confusion still reigns around how Christians should respond to ‘gay rights’ and ‘gay pride’.

    David T.C. Davies began a debate in parliament about gender self-identification–the first time parliament has debated this. Mr Davies mentioned Christian Legal Centre client, Joshua Sutcliffe, a maths teacher disciplined for ‘misgendering’ a pupil, as an example of organisations operating ahead of the law. Tim Dieppe, Christian Concern’s Head of Public Policy, highlights the key points and argues the laws of nature will always trump the laws of parliament when it comes to gender identity.
