General Synod member and Christian Concern CEO Andrea Minichiello Williams has called for the Church of England to move decisively after Rowan Williams announced his resignation as Archbishop of Canterbury earlier today.
The Government’s consultation on same-sex marriage has been criticised for being a “sham” exercise that will not take into account opposing views, with critics stating that the Government are now also redefining the meaning of ‘consultation’.
The Government has today (15 March) launched a 12 week consultation on the introduction of same-sex marriage. The Government wants to introduce full same-sex marriage before the next general election, due in 2015.
A Christian bus driver is facing disciplinary action after circulating a petition backing traditional marriage at work during his break. Arthur McGeorge was approached by his manager and told not to bring the petition into work.

Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith has launched his Social Justice Strategy Paper this week, spelling out the Government’s support for the institution of marriage.

The High Court has ruled that a paralysed man can proceed with his legal action to secure the right of doctors to end his life lawfully. Tony Nicklinson has “locked-in-syndrome” following a stroke in 2005, and wishes to end his life. He has a paralysed body but a fully-functioning mind.

Another Islamist attack on a church in Jos, Nigeria, has left between 10 and 20 Christians dead and many more wounded. On 11 March two men approached Saint Finbarr’s Catholic Church in Rayfield in Jos and then detonated their bomb outside after failing to get into the church.
Celebrity singer Will Young has suggested that clergy should be put in jail for speaking out too strongly against same-sex marriage, and that criticism of the Government’s plans was ‘homophobic’.
