Thousands of girls are being given contraceptive implants or injections on the NHS, despite being under the age of consent, a new study shows.
Statistics compiled by the Health & Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) reveal that in the year to 31 March 2014, 5,400 girls aged under 16 received the implants, whilst 3,000 received hormonal injections. "This amounts to tacit encouragement to break a law intended to protect children," said Andrea Williams.
