The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have written to the presidents of Nigeria and Uganda, critcising the countries' laws on homosexual practice.
Archbishops Justin Welby and John Sentamu said the letter was a response to questions about the Church of England's attitude to new legislation in several countries prohibiting same-sex unions.
Commenting on the letter, Andrea Williams, CEO of Christian Concern says: “The Archbishops’ action in writing this letter buys into homosexual rhetoric and simply appeases the militant homosexual lobby.
"At the same time it sends an unclear message to the watching world of the Church of England’s position on the question of human sexuality. Church orthodoxy on sexual expression is that the only proper context for sexual relations is in marriage and Biblical teaching clearly tells us that God’s model for marriage is the union of one man and one woman.”
