The UK will become the first country in the world to allow the creation of genetically-modified, three-parent children following a vote in the House of Lords this week.
Despite ethical, safety and legal concerns being raised, Peers rejected, by a margin of 280 - 48, a move to allow more careful scrutiny of the proposals. The regulations, already approved by the House of Commons, will come into force in October and the first 'three-parent child' could be born next year.
